Joining the Disney Vacation Club

When I look back to that decision, it was the best one we ever made. Joining the DVC back in '98 and it still being relatively new at that time, we didn't really know much about it. We knew we loved Disney and when the opportunity came along to find out more, we said "what the heck". So we went into the sales office to get more info, wondering was this going to be a pushy sales pitch? It wasn't, our sales rep was really nice and sweet, we remained friends with her until she retired last year. It didn't take much to convince us of the benefits of joining.  The cast members were so nice, there really wasn't any pressure to do anything, just listen and decide. I mean owning a piece of Disney for the next 50 years or so, How could we resist? The biggest benefit was that we were guaranteed a Disney Vacation every year. When you buy the points in DVC it covers your room, you just need to buy your food, souvenirs and transportation. Pretty simple planning and now with the Disney Dining Plan it's even more simple, I would have killed for that years ago. LOL. It is amazing how in 10 plus years since we joined how many choices we have had to try different resorts. That was another thing we loved; being able to stay at all the resorts especially the deluxe resorts.
Disney's Hilton Head Resort
Back then we only had 2 choices to buy points at Boardwalk and Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. So we chose both as our home resorts. We have had a lot of fun at Hilton Head, it is very peaceful and tucked away on it's own Island making it very private and quiet. There are many activites for the kids like goofy bingo and unbirthday celebrations, fishing and bike riding too. Their private beach house is a short drive to the other side where the beaches are. And don't forget the 2 pools.
With our home resorts our booking window is 11 months out to plan our vacation. The other resorts we can book 7 months in advance. And our annual dream vacation countdown begins.
Originally there was only Old Key West Resort and Vero Beach Resorts. Now the List has much more of a variety to include everyone's tastes.
Things I really like about being a DVC member:
  • The Cast members always say "Welcome Home".
  • Special Privileges, Like 10% discount at Basin in Downtown Disney
  • You can swap points for non-dvc resorts rooms
  • Save on select Theme Park Annual Passes
  • Get golf membership discounts at Walt Disney World Resort
  • Get the latest news and previews of Disney events and attractions.
  • You can save your points for the next year for something bigger like the Disney Cruise or a long Hawaiian vacation.
  • If you want to travel the world you can do that too.

DVC Resorts We Have Stayed at:
Animal Kingdom Lodge, BoardWalk, Wilderness Lodge, Old Key West, Saratoga Springs,
Vero Beach and Hilton Head.
