Wordless Wednesday ~ Happy Halloween

Did You Know???   The original jack-o'-lanterns were carved from turnips, potatoes or beets.

Straddling the line between fall and winter, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later Halloween. Over time, Halloween evolved into a secular, community-based event characterized by child-friendly activities such as trick-or-treating. In a number of countries around the world, as the days grow shorter and the nights get colder, people continue to usher in the winter season with gatherings, costumes and sweet treats.
The tradition of dressing in costume for Halloween has both European and Celtic roots. Hundreds of years ago, winter was an uncertain and frightening time. Food supplies often ran low and, for the many people afraid of the dark, the short days of winter were full of constant worry. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. On Halloween, to keep ghosts away from their houses, people would place bowls of food outside their homes to appease the ghosts and prevent them from attempting to enter.

Wreck It Ralph ~ My Review of the Movie

Thanks to D23, I got a Sneak Preview of the new Walt Disney Movie "Wreck It Ralph" last night and I loved it. I was surprised that I liked it as much as I did because, I didn't know what to expect. I had heard a lot about this movie and thought the characters of a video having lives inside the video game, was strange.  And the main character wants to be a good guy, well how could he do that? Being a big video game player myself, I recognized many of the characters from other games, like Q-Bert, Pac-man, and Street Fighter, which was very cool.

The premise is about an arcade game called Fix It Felix, Jr. and two of the main characters of the game are Felix who is the fixer and Ralph who is the wrecker. They have a whole world inside this game much like in real life with jealously, jobs, change and friendship.  This is where our story begins, Ralph wants to change his job from wrecker after seeing Felix get medals every game for fixing everything and the recognition that comes with it.  He now has to figure out how he is going to  accomplish his new goal. It will take the audience on an adventure of friendship and courage that the main character goes through. He must stand up for himself and convince others he can do it, while at the same time he makes a new best friend, Vanellope.

I thought the story carried adventure filled scenes and a twist at the end that I didn't see coming. I also thought the story progressed well and explained life inside their "world" of video games, very well. You see in each arcade game is a existing world with characters that live and play inside their world just like we do. They have parties, friendships, bad people, jealous people and some are trying to save the world. I loved the place called Game Central Station in the movie, it's a place where the characters can travel to any game. It did look a lot like Grand Central Station with the same goal in mind, a central hub to get where your going.

It was a great movie for all age groups, nothing too scary, very funny and a surprise at the end. It also had a very sweet ending that I thought brought all the characters together. I look forward to a sequel. Take the whole family and see this movie..

I'm getting in the Cranberry Bog at Epcot

Tomorrow I am going to Epcot to do something so FUN. I have been invited by Ocean Spray to learn more about the Cranberry and share it with you. A bog is set up and on display in Epcot for The International Food & Wine Festival. I am very excited to get into the bog with all the cranberries, all 1500 pounds of them. In the back of my mind, I have always wondered what it would be like to go in the middle of all those floating cranberries and what that will feel like. I have often thought, Do they get crushed when people are walking around them?  I would love to be silly and throw them up into the air too. All questions and more will be answered, as I will be finding out.

Pictures of The New FANTASYLAND

I have really enjoyed getting to the previews of the New Fantasyland during the Soft Openings that have been going on over the last few weeks in the Magic Kingdom. I wanted to share some pictures I took as I walked around the outside of Beast's Castle, Gaston's Tavern, Maurice's Cottage and Popping Machine, Ariel's Under the Sea and the Bonjour Village gift shop.  I was in awe of this new area, every special detail from the movies. It is truly amazing what they have done behind the construction walls.

Over the past few months, I have been privileged to be at the Magic Kingdom to watch the progress over the last few months and sneak a few pictures from over the walls. I am very thankful to my husband who indulges our love of Disney and would get on top of the brick wall sitting areas by the teacups and Winnie-the-Pooh or even atop Dumbo to get the best pictures. Yes, we have been asked to get down by Cast Members but, it was worth it to get that sneak peek.

Are you looking as forward to it all as I am when The New Fantasyland opens December 6th ºoº

The Boardwalk Villas ~ A DVC Resort

Our stay at the Boardwalk Villas was one with both a great view and a great pool. There are many reasons we love being Disney Vacation Club members but one in particular is because, it allows us to stay in such beautiful resorts and not have to pay cash. We use our DVC points to book our rooms and depending on the length of our stay we get a studio for short visits or the 1 bedroom for longer so then we have a full kitchen.

Some of the pics from our amazing room !!!

Looking at the Tower from across our room

This is one of my favorite resorts because, of it's central location to 2 theme parks. Epcot and Hollywood Studios are just a boat ride away making it very convenient to the Boardwalk, and the boat is your only option because  there is no bus. And if you are feeling adventurous you can also walk to both parks, there are walkways leading to both. So if you happen to miss the last boat you still have a way to get back to the resort. The walk to Hollywood Studios is a little longer than the walk to Epcot, so I have always tried to make that boat. LOL.

This past week we enjoyed great weather and got to swim a lot but, the most fun was shooting out of the clown's mouth as we came down the slide. This has always been a very fun thing to laugh about every time we stay at the Boardwalk.

Thanks for joining me today and I hope you get to stay at this great resort!!!
If you have any questions about the Boardwalk or DVC, let me know ..

I have just returned from our mini Vacation at Walt Disney World and I took this photo from our room at the Boardwalk Villas. We had some really awesome views from our room. Since the Boardwalk is central to 2 parks and the  WDW Dolphin and Swan hotels, you can see many things from your room.

You can just about see Mickey's Hat at Hollywood Studios..
