Downtown Disney - Ferry Boats

Welcome to those of you joining me from The Disney Point and those of you just hopping aboard, I am the 7th stop on our Magical Blogorail.

My topic on this Disney Transportation Loop is something I enjoy riding every time I stay at one of these special resorts. If your staying at Old Key West, Saratoga Springs or Port Orleans - both Riverside and French Quarter they have a ferry as transportation to Downtown Disney. It is one of the most relaxing and peaceful trips on the water. I love the boat ride because, it gives you a chance to unwind and enjoy some fresh air while looking at the beautiful scenery at Disney World. It takes about 15 to 25 minutes depending on which resort you leave from. They do not run at night or in bad weather. They are a little chilly during the winter months but still worth the ride. This is one thing my kids love to do at Disney is to ride all the boats.

Old Key West
These pictures were taken on our most resent trip to DVC's Old Key West and if you look on the front of boats they have different colored flags indicating where they are going, some stop at the other resorts and each resort has a different color flag.

Thank you for joining me today.

  1. We always stay at Port Orleans Riverside, so we make use of these boats to get to Downtown Disney. They are so relaxing. Ian even got a special sticker once for riding. :)

  2. The boats are one of the reasons that we always stay at POFQ. With a trip in the works for next year, I am wondering if the construction at Downtown Disney will have an impact on the ferry system.

  3. I love to take the boats from POR to Downtown Disney! There's so much scenery we'd otherwise miss, like the Treehouse Villas and the golf course and just natural beauty. It's very relaxing and peaceful too.

  4. We stayed at POFQ last spring and we loved the ferry boat! The do sometimes run in bad weather...we came home from Downtown Disney on a ferry in the pouring rain! That part was no fun. :(

  5. I took the ferry from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney last year for the first time. Didn't realize how long the ride was. But it was wonderful late a night looking at all the lights from the other resorts along the way.

  6. We took the boat to Downtown Disney when we stayed at Saratoga Springs last year. It was so nice not having to deal with the traffic and parking at Downtown Disney.

  13. I love these boats in the twilight...but they are so small that the lines at Riverside can get really long!

  14. Thanks Dave ;-) Yes we had to wait for another boat a few times because of long lines. Sometimes we run to line thinking we can get ahead of everyone else - lol

  15. I'm embarrassed to say that we rode these ferryboats for the first time last November; we felt like we were cruising on the bayou! Everything Disney does, even something as mundane as transportation, is so well themed. Such a great way to arrive at Downtown Disney, especially at night!

My favorite time to ride is at night. I love seeing the lights twinkling in DTD.

  17. I first rode these last year and was so sad I had missed out on them for so long! We loved the ride from POFQ to DTD. What a great way to relax and enjoy the scenery!

  18. I love these boats. We have only done this from Saratoga Springs and there's never really a line there. I'm sure it's extra nice now that they are doing construction in the DTD parking lots.
