A Mary Poppins Tribute to Celebrate "Saving Mr. Banks"

Welcome to those of you joining me from Disney In Our Blood and to those of you just hoping aboard, I am the 3rd stop on our Magical Blogorail Peach. Enjoy the ride as we share our tribute to Mary Poppins in anticipation of the release of Disney's "Saving Mr. Banks".

I don't think there has been a Disney Movie that I have been looking forward to seeing as much as this one. I always been a big fan of Mary Poppins and wish she could have been my nanny, that would have been fun. I love that the character Mary Poppins can be remembered so fondly 50 years later. I'm looking forward to seeing Tom Hank's as Walt Disney and also an interesting look at what Disneyland looked like back then. It is especially important to me as a I love seeing the Disney parks past and what fun it must have been to be a part of it.

This tribute to Mary Poppins is in anticipation of the release of Saving Mr. Banks and the many milestones that happened because of this movie.

First some history -
The character Mary Poppins is from a series of children's books written by P. L. Travers. The Mary Poppins book series lasted from 1934 to 1988. It starts out as she is blown by the East wind to 17 Cherry Tree Lane, London, and into the Banks' household to care for their children.

In 1964 a musical film titled Mary Poppins was developed by the Walt Disney studios starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke and that's where the movie Saving Mr. Banks comes from.

I wanted to also share some of the great accomplishments for this movie as well.
Julie Andrews won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as Mary Poppins and the film also won Oscars for Best Film Editing, Original Music Score, Best Song for "Chim Chim Cher-ee" and Best Visual Effects, and received a total of 13 nominations, an unsurpassed record for any other film released by the Walt Disney Studios. These are definitely some great milestones and that's why I really can't wait to see Emma and Tom and the rest of the "Saving Mr. Banks" cast in this movie.
