10 Things You Might Not Have Known About "It's A Small World"

Celebrating 50 Years of Enjoyment :D
It's A Small World - the song and the attraction we all know and love has many things about it that I love but, here are 10 Things that Maybe you didn't know about it.
  1. According to guest research, one in four guests consider "It's a Small World" a "tradition" - meaning they visit it every time there at the Parks.
  2. The boat ride through the "Seven Seaways" takes 10 minutes, 30 seconds. That's about the same length as Splash Mountain, but not as long as the Hall of Presidents,  22 minutes, 48 seconds. (MK longest ride)
  3. As far as the Dolls in It's a Small World, Disney estimates at least 240 figures, it varies from park to park - they represent children from different nations and cultures. And each figure includes at least a dozen props and toys.
  4. It's A Small World is in every Disney Park around the globe.  It's estimated that the It's a Small World song plays every hour, 365 days a year in a Disney park.
  5. After leaving the World's Fair in NY, "It's a Small World" was packed up and shipped off to California, where enhancements were added, eventually growing the attraction by 33% and it reopened in 1966 in Disneyland.
  6. Disney partnered with UNICEF on the original World's Fair ride.
  7. Richard Sherman and Robert Sherman were the brothers who wrote It's a Small World (After All).
  8. During the ride, hundreds of dolls perform It's a Small World in 5 languages: English, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and Swedish. When the ride was originally conceived, the plan was for the dolls to sing their own national anthems.
  9. Walt Disney himself helped oversee construction of the "It's a Small World" attraction at the World's Fair. He also worked with the composers on the ride's song too.
  10. "It's a Small World" first opened at New York's World's Fair on April 22, 1964. At the time, it was sponsored by Pepsi-Cola. UNICEF was also a partner, along with Disney, for the attraction.

And that's it, there were a few things I didn't know. I love this attraction and what it represents because, when you think about it the song is right. How many times are you talking to someone and they know someone else you know? We go on this little boat ride each and every time we are there so I guess #1 is true.

Which Fact was New to You? Or Did You Know Them All ?

Throwback Thursday - Hidden Gem Found - 2013

One thing I love about exploring around Walt Disney World is going to the resorts. There are  so many nooks and crannies for discovering the most interesting things. Here at the Contemporary on one of our vacations, we went out back toward the water. There you find a Hidden Mickey and a great area to play, as you can see.

It's a favorite place for many reasons but I love this one:
The Contemporary is a resort monorail resort and also contains the 90-foot-tall mural by Disney Legend Mary Blair—responsible for the distinct look and feel of the “it’s a small world” attraction which also celebrates the Grand Canyon and the American Southwest.

Have you found a special hidden place that you love to hang out in?

Easter Time at Walt Disney World

If there's one thing I love it's celebrating the Holidays at Walt Disney World. It's always special to visit Disney but, it's even more special around Holidays.

One special place to definitely visit around Easter is the Grand Floridian Resort. Take the Monorail from the Magic Kingdom or Transportation and Ticket Center - (the resort monorail not the express) to get there.

10 Tips For Disney Holiday Fun Time at The Grand Floridian
  • Look at the Front and Back of the Easter Egg Display
  • Many scenes on the eggs themselves as well as below them
  • The eggs are all edible
  • The Grand Floridan has a great lobby to just chill and relax
  • Kids loved looking at all the different movies represented on the eggs
  • Ride the monorail to Magic Kingdom to see the Easter Bunny the week before Easter
  • A new 2014 Penny Press is located upstairs outside gift shop - M. Mouse Mercantile
  • For a great mood booster - located in the GF is the most intoxicating sweet smell. You'll notice it as soon as you walk it!
  • A Basin Store is located on the top floor for Easter gifts (baskets of bath products).
  • Delight in breakfast and dinner buffets, plus a merry afternoon tea party, each hosted by Disney Characters - All can be found at 1900 Park Fare - (lobby level)  (D)inner(B)reakfast
    Cinderella, Prince Charming (D)
    Mary Poppins (B)
    Alice in Wonderland (B)
    The Mad Hatter (B)
Tigger (B) Winnie the Pooh (B)

     Thanks for hopping by ;-)

Extra Tip - Always bring your USB cable and a brick to plug in your phone, because if you look around the lobby at some of the tables there is an outlet to plug into to charge your phone.

Easter Recipe: Roasted Leg of Lamb Grilled & Asparagus with Potato Pave

Happy Easter Everyone. This recipe would be a great one to serve to family and friends for Easter Sunday. And pretty much any time during the year too, if it's from Swan and Dolphin it has to be delicious.

Ingredients for Roasted Leg of Lamb:
1  8-lb. leg of lamb (pelvic bone removed and the lamb tied)
    3 large cloves garlic, sliced
2 sprigs fresh rosemary, picked (the leaves do not need to be separated from each other only removed from the stem)
    1/3 cup Dijon mustard
2 large garlic cloves, minced and mashed to a paste with the side of a knife
1 Tbls. finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
1 Tbls. finely chopped fresh thyme leaves
1 Tbls. chopped flat leaf parsley
    2 Tbls. olive oil
3 Tbls. coarsely ground fresh black pepper
    3 Tbls. kosher salt

Begin by patting the lamb leg dry with paper towels. With paring knife, make a deep slit through the fat layer on the roast and insert a sliver of garlic and a few leaves of rosemary into the freshly cut hole. Repeat this process randomly until all of the sliced garlic and rosemary have been used.
In a small bowl whisk together the mustard, garlic paste, chopped rosemary, chopped thyme and chopped parsley. Slowly add the 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the mustard and herb mixture. The concoction should resemble loose mustard.  Brush the lamb generously on all sides with half of the mixture.  Reserve the rest of the mustard mixture for later use. Cover the leg of lamb with plastic wrap and place into refrigerator to marinate overnight.

More "Frozen" Mania - Parents Shopping at 3 a.m.and Paying Big Bucks

If you've seen the movie "Frozen" you know why everybody loves it so much. The story is sweet, funny and cute. Kids absolutely loved it and then they want the merchandise with the characters on it like the princesses dresses, dolls and more. The trouble is, there isn't enough of it. It gets sold out very quickly and then you have to wait. If you're on a deadline, like I was, you can't wait. Yes, I too was having a Frozen party and when I went to Party City just to buy the plates, cups and napkins well lets say I was disappointed and freakin' out. I left with only the napkins. Now, how was I suppose to have this party with all these kids and have just Frozen napkins? It was a Frozen party and all Party City said was it was all on back order. Apparently everyone else was having a Frozen party and I didn't have time to get it on line. I never thought the merchandise would not be there, I waited till the last minute. So yes I too had gotten a taste of "Frozen" Mania.

Here's more about what some parents are doing to get the Frozen Merchandise they so desperately need.

Parents are also resorting to staying up until 3 a.m. and checking overseas stores to get the popular products

The hit Disney animated film has already grossed more than $1 billion at the global box office, won two Oscars and sold 3.2 million Blu-ray and DVD units in its first day on sale. Now Frozen-themed merchandise has become so scarce that parents are going to great lengths to get their hands on the gear the film's pint-size film fans crave, including staying up until 3 a.m. to buy a Princess Elsa dress, some of which are now going for $1,500 each on eBay.

Maternity wear designer Rosie Pope also told the New York Post that a friend, who works for Disney, spent $1,200 for an Elsa doll on eBay after promising her daughter one for her Frozen-themed birthday party.
“By this point, she didn’t care about the price,” Pope told The Post. “She didn’t want to disappoint her daughter.”
Another mom snagged an Olaf doll from the Disney store in Venice, Italy on a recent business trip, but she's now wary of letting the doll leave the house because of the frenzy caused by her son displaying it in public.
“Anywhere I was, at the Met, at the supermarket, all the mothers were going crazy screaming, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe you got it!’ ” the woman told The Post. “They were asking me if they could borrow the doll for a few days...I feel like I had a bag no one else could get.”

As for the mom who stayed up until 3 a.m., it only cost her $50 to get an Elsa dress on the Disney website, but she was acting on a tip that Disney would restock its merchandise online to coincide with the DVD release of the film last month. And she had already made multiple trips to the Disney store in New York and fruitless searches online.
“When I gave [my four-year-old daughter] the dress, her eyes popped out of her head and she was so excited. It was like the happiest I’ve ever made her in my life," Gleason told Today's website.

Some mothers have even set up Facebook groups, like Unfrozen Trading Friends, where approved members can buy, sell and exchange Frozen gear without mark-ups.
Elsewhere online, angry moms are complaining about not being able to find certain items.

The websites and stores for many retailers are out of stock of several, popular items.
Last week, Disney reportedly instituted a two-item limit on all Frozen goods at its stores, but there isn't even much to buy in some locations, like the Times Square shop, which only had some dresses with a "Frozen" logo and large, Frozen-themed shoes during a visit to the location by The Post last week.
A Disney store employee also told The Post that people have gotten into fights in the morning.
“The kids cry, but the parents are the problem," the employee said. "They try to guilt us, say their daughters are sick. They have no shame. But I can’t make it magically appear!”

A Disney Store spokesperson has not yet responded to The Hollywood Reporter's request for comment.

Would you pay thousands to get your kid what they wanted?

A big thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for all the Info.

It's The Ultimate Blog Party #UBP14

Welcome to The Ultimate Blog Party hosted by 5 Minutes For Mom- Thanks for stopping by and checking out the party. Bloggers from all over are joining together and meeting each other on this ultimate blog party, come on and join in!

    Ultimate Blog Party 2014

Just a little about myself and my blog. My name is Diane and my blog is called Can Do It Mom because that's how I feel. I know I can do it all - it may take me a while but I'll get it done. I think most moms feel this way. My blog is 3 years old and as I have moved to Florida from New York my writing and travels have grown.

Also, I have a great love of Disney and that's the Mouse Fan part. I always loved visiting Walt Disney World and other theme parks, so I decided to write about them. It's all about my family's adventures with Disney plus other places in Florida. One of my other passions is taking pictures and every time I'm out and about I must click 100's.  I also like sharing my thoughts on products, movies and food and that's why I love blogging.

I'm a proud mom to 2 wonderful kids, Liam 12 and Abby 14 and I've been married for 20 years to the most wonderful supportive man in the world. We all love Disney and the Beach, our 2 main reasons for re-locating to Florida. It was a hard decision to leave our friends and family but I bet they will all follow eventually. Sharing our adventures was a big part of starting this blog and we take a lot of pictures of all the things we do.

We have traveled to both sides of the Florida coast and we really love the Gulf side beaches. The sand is sugar white and there are lots of shells which we love collecting.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will come back and read some more of my crazy adventures on this blog. I love talking about my kids, Disney, cooking and our very energetic puppy, Mia.

My Review Captain America - The Winter Soldier

I was Blown Away after seeing
Captain America - The Winter Soldier

It's the newest installment from the Marvel Universe. I was looking forward to this movie because, there was going to be a lot of twists and turns.  Some of the new twists would be leading us to the next Marvel movie, Avengers - Age of Ultron.   Some Spoilers Ahead!

I was shocked at some of the surprises in this movie. Based on the First Avenger, Captain America - Steve Rogers faces many enemies in this new movie. You didn't know who was a bad guy. I knew about the Winter Soldier but, you don't see him right away. This movie introduced him as a new, very strong villain and it posed a great challenge for Steve Rogers in many ways.

I loved the mystery of this new character because, you don't know who he is at first, just that he's part of Steve Rogers past. The Winder Soldier, is a great villain because he's fierce, strong and doesn't say much. But is he stronger than Captain America? Never.

The action scenes in this film were incredible. The fight scenes are breathtaking. I loved how the story incorporated all these elements together and kept you holding your breath.
I was stunned to see them kill off Nick Fury, I was like "no way how could they go on without him". When I say twists and turns here's another, there's a lot of elements from the 1st Captain America movie brought back into this story and characters from his past. It was great writing to integrate all of these elements from past and present to make a story that you couldn't tell how it will turn out in the end. There is definitely an ending I didn't see coming and it revolves around the Agency S.H.I.E.L.D. It was awesome to see the new addition of Falcon as the newest Hero. He is a great friend to Steve and along with Black Widow, they kick major butt.

And most important don't leave until the credits are completely over there are 2 scenes at the end of the movie - one is mid-credits and the other at the very end. We are introduced to 2 more Marvel characters, who will be in the next movie. Very exciting stuff.

Go out and see it. You will be amazed. I love the character Captain America, he is one stand up guy who truly believes in good over evil and is willing to do the right thing no matter what the cost. That's something you don't see everyday. One true American Role Model - Captain America.

IS this the end of S.H.I.E.L.D ?
