Review of "THE GOLDBERGS" THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON On DVD Today

One of the new offerings that stands out from the pack…fueled partly by nostalgia,
partly by the great Jeff Garlin's constant yelling and partly by some outstanding writing.”

Disclaimer: I was given a complimentary copy of the Season 1 DVD of The Goldberg's  In no way are any of the opinions expressed here influenced at any time by anyone. All opinions are my own and true.

I loved reviewing this DVD. It was so much fun watching it again. The Goldberg's tv show, is a favorite of mine and my whole family. We have been watching it from the beginning and really enjoying the 80's humor, clothes, hair and music. If you are familiar with the 80's, a time of great movies (Goonies, Back to the Future and E.T.) you know that that's only the beginning of a great decade of memories. The 80's music (Journey and REO Speedwagon) also has many classics that will live on forever. All of this is now relived in this show. I think that is what's so interesting about this show, is it brings us 40 something parents right back to our TEEN years.

I also loved seeing all the behind the scenes and hearing how much this cast truly loves each other and gets along. I thought it was great that the creator Adam F. Goldberg brings all the elements of the 80's together each week. The Goldbergs are very funny, charming and totally relatable to my own family. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the commentary of the laugh-out-loud ensemble cast starring Wendi McLendon-Covey (Bridesmaids), Sean Giambrone (“Clarence”), Troy Gentile (Good Luck Chuck), Hayley Orrantia (“The X Factor”), George Segal (“Just Shoot Me!”) and Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”).  The series is narrated by Patton Oswalt (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”).

The ‘80s are back in full swing with the Sept. 9 DVD release of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s “THE GOLDBERGS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON.” “The Goldbergs” is a coming-of-age comedy that brings viewers back to simpler times – when overbearing moms, gruff dads and annoying siblings were par for the course. Documenting the ups and downs of growing up in a multigenerational family in the ‘80s, this freshman-season comedy has earned big laughs, offering viewers a charming and intimate look at an average American family -- just like yours, only slightly louder and more colorful.

“THE GOLDBERGS: THE COMPLETE FIRST SEASON” contains all 23 episodes on three DVD discs, along with cast and crew commentary on five episodes, and five all-new, behind-the-scenes featurettes, including a look at creating the first season in “Blast from the Past: Making Season One.”
Additional featurettes include “Our House: The ‘80s Revisited,” giving viewers an inside glimpse of the Goldberg home, as well as “On Set with Jeff Garlin,” featuring Goldberg patriarch Murray (Garlin). Fans can also enjoy a rare glimpse into Patton Oswalt’s process as narrator in “Patton Oswalt: Adam Grows Up.” Lastly, “Costumes of the '80s: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly” takes fans on a tour of the wardrobe department where costume designer Keri Smith reveals details on dressing a show set in the ‘80s.
