Disney's "Into The Woods" - Movie Review

I loved this movie; probably because, first I love Meryl Streep and second it was a phenomenal ensemble cast joining her. With a great bunch of favorite fairy tale stories and some of the greatest songs, it is a true classic. Bring your whole family, the kids will love it because the story is lighthearted and funny.  At times even a little scary, after all there is a witch in this, but not to worry the musical numbers are mesmerizing.

Johnny Depp is hysterical as the Big Bad Wolf and the young girl who plays Red was so cute and talented. She will steal the show. She's both funny and strong - she has a lot of wittiness to her character. I also loved Jack from the Beanstalk, he was a true hero in this movie, doing his best to save others. He is someone the kids could look up to, he had lots of spirit and adventure was his middle name. The character of Rapunzel was so sweet, I loved her innocence in this story and I was so happy for her at the end of the movie.

Their intertwining stories all combined into this one story, Into The Woods. It was the central story, that revolved around the Baker and his wife and The Witch who puts a evil spell on them and this sets the tone of the movie. They must get a bunch of items in the woods to remove the curse. This entire movie takes place in the dark, dangerous woods. It is also where we meet Cinderella, who turned out to be not the one you would expect and neither is her Prince, though he was funny and charming. Some characters were the ones we know; it was however the wicked stepmother and step sisters we all know and love (or love to hate).

I was amazed and delighted with the musical numbers, I couldn't believe everyone's voice especially, Johnny Depp (The Big Bad Wolf)  and Chris Pine (The Prince). The singing was just beautiful. You won't be able to stop singing "Into The Woods ~ Into the Woods ~ Into the Woods".

  1. This looks like such a great movie! I am so sad I missed the press event for it. Meryl Streep is amazing! Wow, I didn't know Johnny Depp could sing!

  2. I love that you got an invite to the preview Diane! My son Kyle played Rapunzel's Prince as a sophomore in high school, and I've been waiting to hear "Agony" again. This movie did not disappoint, though I would have LOVED to have seen their version of the "Agony Reprise!"
