We Had a Blast Tasting! The Food and Wine Festival Comes to #Orlando

This past weekend was the 8th annual Downtown Orlando Food and Wine Festival, complete with awesome food, wine and music. This festival is special because you get to taste many of Orlando's finest local cuisine and listen to some great live music at the same time. As we walked downtown right near beautiful Lake Eola in the heart of the city, the most amazing smells were right ahead of us.  It was a great experience for locals and visitors alike. The best part was trying many different foods in one central place. One reason I loved going was there are so many restaurants I have never tried before. For me, it's simple I get to sample a restaurant's cuisine at the festival and if I like the food it's a new place to enjoy for lunch or dinner.

When you arrive at the festival, you buy tickets to purchase each food of your choice, about 2 or 3 tickets per food item. With so many choices, your tickets will go fast. Here's a quick low down -- cuisine ranging from Sushi to Burgers to Italian to New Orleans, Beer Dip, Chinese and lots of seafood too. If your a visitor this would be a great way to check the local scene because, there's lots of info provided by each establishment and menus are there for you to take with you. I also like the  relaxing atmosphere of just walking down the street with a glass of wine and listening to some great music. The musical acts play the entire time of the festival and there is a spot for you to relax on the lawn in front of the stage. I'm going to share with you the foods and places we tried but feel free to check them all out when you are in Orlando! Lots of pictures below....

2015 Foodie AwardMarlow’s Tavern Shrimp & Grits
2015 Sweet Treat Award: Primo at JW Marriott Orlando Cannoli Gelato Cone
2015 Best of Show:Siro at Orlando World Center Marriott (winner 2013-2015)
Over 30 of Orlando's finest restaurants are represented and here are a few of my favorites.

Marlow's Tavern - One of my favorites, the food is always fresh and delicious. Shrimp and Grits - It was my favorite, love the taste of the shrimp mixed with the cheesy grits. The real delight was the marinated beef tenderloin, so tender and delicious a real melt in your mouth dish.

Next stop was the Sushi House and their Volcano roll was excellent. A California roll with a very spicy crab salad, yum!!

Cooper's Hawk  - We enjoyed a very delicious and spicy Jambalaya. This was awesome and had a lot of of flavor and lots of shrimp too.

The Pub - Had some amazing (highly recommend) beer cheese with hot pretzels to dip into the cheese.
The cheese definitely had a beer taste and was savory and so delicious. An awesome snack.
The loaded Gouda Mac & Cheese - had so much gooey creamy cheese and the taste was amazing, gouda is the perfect melted cheese for the mac.

Jeremiah's Italian Ice - They had many of you favorite flavors and we choose - Sea Salt Caramel - very sweet and refreshing.

Dancing Pigs Deli - Had the most interesting hot dogs. The Farm Dog was indeed the best with bacon, cheddar,  radishes, onion relish and mustard - At first I wasn't sure about the combo but after, tasting - the combo totally worked, yum. Another interesting combo included The Brit - white cheddar, cakes, onion. The Muff Dog with Italian meats, swiss, olive salad. Some really different ways to add to that classic hot dog and this was the place to do it.

Here's a list of some of the other restaurants that were there - Feel free to check them outline!!
Hard Rock Cafe
Dick's Last resort
Copper Canyon
Morton's Steakhouse
Tapa Toro
Itta Bena
Shari Sushi Lounge
Carmel Fire Grill
Funky Monkey

Sing!! A Music Comedy About the Singing Star in All of US

enjoy the clip above from the funny guys at Illumination, you've never seen anything like this...  A musical comedy about finding the shining star that lives inside all of us.

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon (Academy Award®winner Matthew McConaughey), a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times.  Buster is an eternal optimist—okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel—who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it.  Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.

See The Emotional Motion Poster! #PetesDragon

After seeing it last night I'm thrilled and exciting to bring it to you once again!

my take:

This is a reimagining of Disney’s cherished family film, “Pete’s Dragon” - You remember the adventure of an orphaned boy named Pete and his best friend Elliott, who just so happens to be a dragon. Yes I do, from a long time ago, not sure how I feel about the remake of a childhood classic. I guess I will have to wait and see it!

For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales…until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete’s descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon. Disney’s “Pete’s Dragon” opens in U.S. theaters on August 12, 2016.

See ya real soon movie fans! Enjoy and Be Well ....

StarWarsific!! Episode VIII Info - #Video #Dates #POTC questions?

Can't wait for the new name but this shot is beyond Starwarsific!!! But, even more is the video below. Looks like they have started filming on the same island with Luke and Rey!! Now he's the scruffy looking nerf herder. LOL!

Star Wars: Episode VIII, which is written and directed by Rian Johnson and continues the storylines introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.  New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and talented newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII, originally scheduled for release on May 26, 2017, will now debut on December 15, 2017.
The move follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December. In the popular holiday moviegoing corridor, it smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest grossing domestic release of all time with over $861M and the third biggest global release ever with $1.887B. Written and directed by Rian Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in pre-production and will begin principal photography in London (feb).

With Star Wars: Episode VIII jumping to December, Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will set sail on May 26, 2017, from its previously scheduled July 7, 2017, berth. The blockbuster franchise’s previous installment, the $1B-grossing Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, also debuted in late May.

Glad to see them all returning but is Mrs. Turner coming back???

In Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Johnny Depp returns as Captain Jack Sparrow with Geoffrey Rush back on board as Barbossa, Orlando Bloom resurfacing as Will Turner, and a terrifying new adversary, Captain Salazar, played by Javier Bardem, oh evil!

Sounds like it gonna be a fierce movie sequel fan favorites!! #UltraMovieFan

If I could interview the cast of PoTc -  I would ask Johnny Depp - What drew you to the Jack Sparrow character from the beginning?

Orlando Bloom - Does he like playing a nice villain or would he rather be more evil than Davy Jones?

And to the dashing Geoffrey Rush, Would he like to do a prequel movie about when he was Captain Jack's 1st mate on the Black Pearl?

See ya later Movie fans!

I have always been impressed by Louisiana’s rich culinary heritage, which draws on French, German, Spanish, African and Native American influences,” said John C. Metz, executive chef and co-founder of Marlow’s Tavern. “We’ve been letting the good times roll in our kitchen creating appetizers, entrées and cocktails that show off that unique blend of flavors from New Orleans with a Marlow’s twist.  Let’s just say we're throwing our own parade for the palate.”
To kick up the local spice another notch this year, Metz’s team has added Classic Creole seasoning from Woodstock-based GG’s Fine Food. to several of its recipes. “Linda "GG" Gibson learned to cook Creole the old-fashioned way - from her grandmother,” Metz said. “Her seasonings are very traditional in the classic Louisiana style.”

Marlow’s has crafted a special menu of drinks and handcrafted cocktails including:
·        “Pat’s” Marlow’s Hurricane – a New Orleans tradition stolen from Pat O’Brien’s.  His secret recipe all “jazzed up” with Bacardi light rum, fresh orange juice and a floater of Bacardi. Hold onto your beads!
·        Bourbon Rum Punch  – Old Forester, Meyer’s Dark Rum, vanilla, cream & nutmeg
·        Bourbon Street Lemonade – house-made  New Orleans original, Southern Comfort, lemonade, kiss of mint, fresh lemon; lime and a dash of simple syrup
·        Sokol Blosser Evolution, Oregon 16th Edition – unique blend of nine different white grapes, produced and bottled in Oregon with hand-selected Oregon, Washington & California fruit, bright straw, exotic tropical citrus, hints of spicy apple with lush, crisp, bright finish
·        ABITA® Turbodog-Draught – Turbodog Dark Brown Ale brewed with pale, caramel, chocolate malts and Willamette hops, rich flavors, perfect partner for all things Cajun!
·        ABITA® Wrought Iron IPA-Bottle - Abita Wrought Iron IPA is the resilient, indestructible nature of New Orleans. India Pale Ale forged with intensity of apollo, equinox and mosaic hops, bright as iron from a fiery forge, perfect for a night on the bayou

During the celebration, one lucky grand prize winner and a guest will enjoy a weekend in New Orleans listening to music legends such as Stevie Wonder, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam, Flo Rida and many more at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.  Visit www.MarlowsTavern.com for contest details and registration.

Orlando's #LakeHouse Restaurant ~ Delicious Dining With A Private Lake Retreat Feel

Welcome!  Living here in Orlando, I love going to new and exciting places to dine and this was at the top of my list to try. I was luckily enough to be invited to dine at Central Florida's Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress resort's newest restaurant, LakeHouse. It's a beautiful, relaxing restaurant and the resort itself is gorgeous too. Located downstairs, I found myself in awe of the decor both bright and bold, it welcomed me like an dear friend. I really loved the cascading staircase down to the dining room and bar. Located alongside Lake Windsong, the grounds and beauty of the LakeHouse are breathtaking. Be sure and go outside and walk around the beautiful grounds. I found the cuisine amazing and I will be telling you about some of it, right here. But before that I wanted to mention the wonderful and very attentive service from the staff - they were nice to talk to and shared the details of all the foods we tried.

For instance, House made pizza made this night a special treat, who doesn't love fresh and delicious pizza? They are available Margherita style, Turkey and Brie and a Sage with Butternut Squash. Also available a Vegan flatbread with yummy heirloom tomatoes, herbs, beets and mushrooms.

Whether you are here for business or pleasure the contemporary setting is comfortable and will make you feel right at home, here at the LakeHouse. Their selection is locally based foods with a lot of regional inspiration.  It's a great place for a romantic getaway for 2 or a nice night out with the whole family.

LakeHouse is a full service restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as delicious appetizers and cocktails, throughout the day. They also serve bottle and draft beer, a large selection of wines plus the wood-fired pizza/flatbreads, yum!

Their menu has something for everyone. For me, the two drinks I had were some of the best both the White Sangria and Blood Orange Mojito tasted simply amazing. Both added an amazing zing to my dinner. Let me tell you about some of the apps we had. To start we tried some sinful - Almond filled Dates wrapped in Bacon, can you say delish? The sweet date with the savory, salty bacon - Heaven!! And the Sea Salt Pretzel Bites w/ Horseradish mustard and beer cheese fondue, Ah-mazing. The mustard was tangy and slightly spicy but, oh so delicious. I highly recommend both.

Pictured above is the Filet Mignon with port wine sauce, tender asparagus and a very scrumptious herb bread pudding. Cooked perfectly the filet melted in your mouth, 100% recommended this dish. Now for my next fave - Grilled Shrimp Cocktail ~ is one of the most amazing tastes, loved the spicy Bloody Mary cocktail sauce and the grilled taste of the shrimp together. I also love fish and this next dish, Sea Bass with Citrus Butter Sauce and Lemon Grass Orzo was delicious. It was so tender and flaky, and the spiced kale were delicious together, I would order this anytime.  Shrimp and Grits were a true southern favorite dish: creamy, cheesy and with a zesty passion fruit bbq sauce.

And last but not least - the wonderful, amazing, melt in your mouth Sushi. All of the sushi was expertly prepared and extremely fresh. Sure to be a hit with any sushi lover. There are many types available and some of my faves were Volcano, Caterpillar, Rainbow and California rolls are just some available here.
The sushi menu is extensive and many of your favorites are available, along with house specialities.

Sweet Desserts:
Starting with my favorite - the Hot Roasted Apple Tart - it has the most delectable taste. Imagine fire roasted apples inside a flaky crust, topped vanilla bourbon ice cream.YUM!  All their desserts were amazing and I wish I had more room, lol. Now check out the rest - Key Lime Cheesecake, Double Fudge Cake, Peanut Butter Brownie Sundae w/enough for 2 and the scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake shots pictured below.

The decor focuses on Florida's natural beauty with a blend of blue, yellow, orange, grey and white colors. The 6,350 sq. ft. restaurant seats 206 guests and they can soak up views of beautiful Lake Windsong.  A visit to the herb garden outside definitely gave me the feeling of fresh ingredients being used here.

With so much more to enjoy on the menu, stop by for a relaxing and very enjoyable meal. For more details and the location visit their website listed below.

The Disney Store today unveiled characters from a galaxy far, far away as a part of the Star Wars Tsum Tsum collection, the newest addition to the popular stackable plush line that has taken the world by storm since it was first introduced at Disney Store in Japan in 2013.

The collection will be launched exclusively at Disney Store locations – both in-store and online – in the U.S., Japan and Europe on February 16.
