SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment and world-renowned marine artist and conservationist Guy Harvey today announced a new partnership focused on ocean health and the plight of sharks in the wild.  The two organizations will partner to raise awareness of these important issues, and collaborate on science and research to increase understanding of how to better protect these critical predators and their habitats. 

“SeaWorld is committed to raising awareness of the plight of sharks in the wild and the oceans they live in.  As part of our commitment that we made in March of this year, we will put meaningful dollars, research and man hours towards reducing this troubling trend,” Joel Manby, President and CEO of SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment said.  “The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation and Guy Harvey Research Institute have been front and center in this effort for years, and we are proud to open a new chapter in those efforts today.”

Research indicates upwards of 100 million sharks are killed every year in the global shark fishery. The Guy Harvey Research Institute estimates 73 million per year for the fin trade alone. Members of SeaWorld’s animal care team recently joined a Guy Harvey Research Institute shark tagging expedition off the coast of Mexico, tagging six Mako sharks over the course of four days.  Those tagged sharks will be followed by students and researchers at Guy Harvey’s Institute at Nova Southeastern University, and can be viewed by the public online at www.GHRItracking.org.

“The partnership with SeaWorld will ensure our ocean conservation messages and our efforts to protect Mako sharks reach a broader audience here in the United States and worldwide,” said renowned scientist, marine wildlife artist and conservationist Dr. Guy Harvey. “We are thrilled to gain the support of the SeaWorld team as we continue to bring educational initiatives and conservation efforts to life.”

In addition to the science and research efforts, Guy Harvey and SeaWorld will also work together to increase public awareness about ocean health and the need for shark conservation.  SeaWorld’s new roller coaster, Mako, will be a major platform for this effort.  In the queue lines for the new coaster, guests will be educated and entertained through digital platforms that provide access to the real science of sharks in the wild and ways they can help protect them with Guy Harvey himself as the host.  Elsewhere in the realm guests will have access to real-time shark tracking and videos from Guy Harvey’s vast library of compelling and visually stunning shark expeditions.  Interactive materials will also share information about shark conservation and ways to get involved.

Guy Harvey will also commission an array of exclusive paintings and apparel, which will be available only at SeaWorld.  SeaWorld will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of such items directly to the Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation.  The world-renowned artist will be making park appearances, including the painting of a signature Mako mural for the attraction launch.

Maia Dua, from West Sacramento, California was selected from five finalist as MARVEL’S CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – GIRLS REFORMING THE FUTURE CHALLENGE Grand Prize Winner and will participate in a week-long internship at Marvel Studios. Over 1,000 young women from across the nation accepted the challenge to use science and technology to create a project that would create positive world change for their generation and beyond. Maia developed a “seeing eye” robot as a cost-effective and durable alternative to a seeing eye dog. The self-propelled, echo-locating “Seeing Eye-Bot” is made of readily accessible materials, making it more available to individuals of limited financial resources. Maia designed the seeing eye-bot to require minimal maintenance and to have a functional life span in excess of 7 years. Maia hopes her invention can address the needs of the visually impaired, who may be unable or unwilling to own a seeing eye dog.

Maia will spend a week at Marvel Studios, learning firsthand how STEM skills are being used in innovative and creative ways to produce some of the world’s all-time favorite characters and films. At the conclusion of her internship, Maia will join together with the four other finalists form Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge; Holly Riepling from Colorado Springs, Colo.; Janie Kim from San Diego, Calif.; Margaret Fleck from Emmaus, Pa.; and Vivian Qiang from Marlboro, N.J., to inspire other young girls around the world by participating in a special LIVE global webinar hosted by Broadcom MASTERS. During the webinar, all five girls will discuss how their STEM skills enabled them to create their projects and become a finalist of the Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War – Girls Reforming the Future Challenge. Maia will share her Marvel Studios internship experience, giving girls everywhere a peek into STEM skills in action outside the lab and classroom.

More Fun Than the Bare Necessities!! #JungleBook Movie Review


The Jungle Book Live action movie was incredible. I loved how this favorite Disney Classic came alive and brought so many cherished memories back to me. I always loved the Jungle Book because, Mowgli had the coolest friends and experiences -  so I had  high hopes for this new version. I thought the casting of  the characters was right on point! The voices were not to different than I expected them to be. The cast includes Bill Murray (“Baloo”), Sir Ben Kingsley (“Bagheera”), Lupita Nyong’o (“Raksha”), Scarlett Johansson (“Kaa”),Idris Elba (“Shere Khan”), Christopher Walken (“King Louie”), Giancarlo Esposito (“Akela”) and Neel Sethi who plays Mowgli. BTW, The actor who plays Mowgli was amazing, he transformed right into the character and I truly loved watching him on screen. 



This film is a little different than the animated 1967 classic; where that one was a big musical and this one doesn't have much singing or dancing with the infamous joyous banter. But, the new one is still very exciting along with some scary moments and big action. This Jungle Book is PG not G like the original, that's not to say kids are not going to like it or shouldn't go. One particular mention, is that the action is intense in some scenes with Shere Khan - he is a much more devilsh villain. I do not recommend this film for small children as I said some of the scenes are fierce.The CGI is fantastic - you can't tell what's real and whats CGI's over an actor in a green suit! All in all, I loved it and highly recommend this action packed movie. The relationships are filled with so much emotions. The love is truly sweet for Mowgli and his family stops at nothing to protect him. I love that family bond and it shows in this movie. I do wish Kaa was in the film a bit longer and the elephants sang while marching.



Movie Notes!  The scenery in this movie is truly beautiful with the lush green jungle as a constant background, really makes for a part in telling the story. It's about 2 hours long and has you laughing, crying and routing on Mowgli. Can't we all just get along? lol! So go see it and enjoy this delightful movie with your family. My favorite part was Mowgli and Baloo (Bill Murray), they are so cool singing the Bare Necessities because isn't that what life should be about? Floating down the river on your best friend and singing about just doing the stuff that makes you happy. :-)

The Paws for Peace Walk is a fun and leisurely stroll for families, friends and their pets. We walk to raise awareness about the impact of domestic abuse on pets and their owners. Survivors often won’t leave an abusive relationship because they don’t have a safe place to go where they can bring their pets. In Central Florida, survivors can bring their pets with them to Harbor House. 100% of the proceeds from the walk will go to fund services of survivors and their pets staying in our Safe Short Term Housing. Paws for Peace website: harborhousefl.com/pawswalk

Working closely with Autism Speaks, the vacation resort #BuiltForKids currently is installing a large panel of hands-on, sensory-stimulating activities in a quiet space within its theme park, the first of several planned projects designed to make LEGOLAND Florida Resort a more autism-friendly destination for children and families.
LEGOLAND Florida Resort“Autism Speaks applauds the efforts of LEGOLAND Florida Resort to provide special accommodations so that guests on the autism spectrum can maximize their park experience,” said Karen Bacharach, senior director with Autism Speaks’ Southeastern Regional Office in Maitland, Fla. “When asked, our Central Florida volunteers were eager to offer some design considerations to help the resort be autism friendly.”
According to Aymee Good, brand manager at LEGOLAND Florida Resort, a recent refurbishment of the theme park’s Annual Pass processing center provided an ideal opportunity to create a safe, calming space for children with special needs, a project that quickly bloomed into multiple ideas among several departments to make the resort a more welcoming place for kids of all ages and abilities.

Under the partnership, Autism Speaks staff members and volunteers will consult on the development and installation of “quiet rooms” and other resort facilities designed to meet the needs of guests with autism. The organization also will help LEGOLAND Florida Resort create online “social stories” that will provide illustrated walkthroughs of its attractions, shows and other guest amenities, and will consult on other autism-friendly initiatives such as a park map designed for guests with special needs and possible revisions to its existing Guide for Guests with Disabilities.
To better educate LEGOLAND Florida Resort employees (known as “Model Citizens”) about the unique needs of guests on the autism spectrum, Autism Speaks staff members and volunteers will conduct training sessions at the resort at least twice a year and will supply educational material to be distributed to all new hires.

“We’re proud to say that we’re built for kids,” said Rex Jackson, director of Marketing & Sales at LEGOLAND Florida Resort. “By partnering with Autism Speaks and making these smart changes that will benefit so many families, we’re helping to ensure that our resort is truly built for all kids.”

My Review of the Latest Mobile App - #TheJungleBook: Mowglis Run

 I really enjoyed playing! Mowgli's Run through the jungle is not easy. It definitely took me a bunch of times to get used to the game. You need to collect honey drops while running and not getting killed. I thought the App had stunning color and backgrounds. I had a lot of fun by running through every environment in the jungle.  But, beware you have to move Mowgli fast from left to right collecting all that honey before he crashes into something, LOL. This game is addicting, I do love a challenge.
